| Phytomedical Technologies is a company that has done extensive studies on the medical benefits of cinnamon. It is a publicly traded company with the ticker symbol of PYTO. I'll be honest and say that I own a small amount of shares in the company, but I have no control over their operations. I am also neither pro nor con about buying stock in the company. However, I have a great interest in their research about cinnamon. They have discovered that cinnamon has insulin-like properties that may help people with Type 2 diabetes. One study showed that people who took cinnamon for 40 days had significantly lower levels of glucose, triglycerides, and cholesterol. Compounds in cinnamon stimulate insulin receptors while inhibiting enzymes that deactivate them. One study published in Diabetes Care showed that only one gram of cinnamon per day produced dramatic improved health. This is one-fourth of a teaspoon twice a day, and it can easily be taken in 500 mg capsules, too. The study found that blood sugar was reduced 18 to 29 percent, triglycerides were cut by 23 to 30 percent, and total cholesterol was lowered by 12 to 26 percent. |
